I have recently moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to pursue advancing my career as a professional poker player. After running a gamut of professions from laborer to executive to business owner, I have settled on being a poker player. I intend to share my insights and experiences as they occur in the world of a pro poker player in Las Vegas.
The name Red Bull + Poker is an homage to Iggy at Guinness and Poker. I dig Iggy's blog and I used to drink Guinness profligately. I don't do that so much anymore, but I always have a Red Bull before I start my poker day. So the name seemed appropriate, if not entirely original.
My Poker Goals
My goals are quite simple. First I'd like to continue to support myself and achieve a level of financial independence while playing this great game full time. And secondly, I would like to be able to use poker as a means to travel the world, playing in every stop on the European and Asia-Pacific Poker Tours at one time or another. I am not necessarily a tournament player, but as I have experienced at The Bike in L.A. during the Legends of Poker WPT event, some of the best cash games around can be found on the tournament circuits.
The purpose of this site will be to document my experiences (and interject a little levity) as I navigate the people, the places and the game itself. It's more for me than you, but if you get a little enjoyment out of it too than all the better.
The picture above is an over exposed shot of a ticket to the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin, Ireland. This is what they give you to enter the fantastic 7 story museum for Guinness. It is a transparent, pebble shaped piece of plastic infused with and encapsulating a little bit of Guinness itself. This really has no relevance to the blog, I just really liked the pebble and the pic.
My author name xxx is a tip of the hat to an older man that I used to play poker with at the Bicycle Club in Los Angeles. He and I were friendly and one time I asked him his name and he responded that it was triple x. He said that he never mentioned his name at a poker table, because of some of the horror stories that he's heard over the years. Since I feel like writing this blog somewhat anonymously, xxx seems about right.
Update #1: The Unanonymizer
I had some ideas for a poker based business which I can use this blog to grow and promote. So, I decided to not remain anonymous in case things come together. One of the first steps will be to get a couple of my friends to contribute a little content here and there from their various poker locales. I'd like to cover the NY and LA poker scenes as well as go international once I start traveling to play.
Update #2: New Blogger
RB+P welcomes a new blogger! LA Tony will be blogging primarily from Los Angeles, California where he will cover the poker scene for RB+P.![]()
Tonight I finally cured a glaring deficit in my poker education: I watched "The
Cincinnati Kid" (1965).
Unfortuately, there is precious little I...
